If you’re looking for mermaids, you just might find them at Sandgate State School’s annual fete.
Everyone in the community is invited to come and enjoy Sandgate State School’s beach themed ‘Carnivale by the Sea’, being held this month.
P&C President, Kane Jacobson, said Carnivale was the school’s major fundraiser.
“Carnivale is the most important date on our P&C calendar, it is more than just our biggest fundraiser, it is also a great opportunity to showcase our school to the wider community,” he said.
“It’s a great community day where families and staff are able to spend time together having fun, while showcasing students’ talent through music, dance and art.
“It’s also a great opportunity for families thinking of Sandgate State School for their children to come and check out the school in a relaxed environment.”
The Carnivale will feature live performances, amusement rides, games and activities for the whole family, as well as plenty of tasty treats.
“The cake stall is something special,” Kane said.
“We are blessed with some amazingly talented volunteer bakers and sweet makers.”
For new principal Angela Bell, the Carnivale will be her first chance to see how Sandgate State School interacts with the wider community.
“This is a chance to showcase our school and, as far as our students are concerned, it’s a great way to build links between school and home,” she said.
“I understand the P&C have been using funds from Carnivale in previous years to install air-conditioning in our classrooms.
“All the research shows that there is a direct link between a child’s ability to concentrate in class and their learning outcomes.
“And if kids are not too hot, or too cold, their learning outcomes are greatly improved.”
Mrs Bell started at the school at the beginning of Term Two.
“I’m very impressed with the school, it’s a wonderful school and I look forward to seeing our teacher’s professionalism and enthusiasm on display at the Carnivale and for their ongoing commitments to meeting the needs of our students,” she said.
